Monitoring of registered trademarks

Relevance of the review of new trademark registrations

Trademark owners should continuously monitor the trademark register to identify new registrations. It serves as a preventive measure to identify and prevent potential trademark infringements at an early stage.

All trade mark applications and registrations are publicly accessible in the databases of the DPMA, EUIPO and WIPO.

Our trademark experts are happy to provide support. They carry out professional searches by continuously monitoring both the national and international databases of the trademark offices, as well as fee-based databases, in order to identify new trademarks and trademark applications.

This involves a targeted search for identical trademarks (identity search) and for trademarks with similar word elements, spellings or figurative elements (similarity search). The relevant classes of goods and services are also checked.

Importance of trademark monitoring

As already explained in our blog Trademark search before applying for a trademark, the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) does not check whether an applied-for trademark conflicts with existing identical or similar trademarks.

Regular monitoring of trademarks in the trademark registers makes it possible to identify potential risks of confusion at an early stage and take measures in good time.

Our trademark expert Philipp Henrichs supports you in ensuring comprehensive and sustainable trademark protection. The costs for trademark monitoring are manageable. Feel free to contact us for more information.
