
Raphael Sander

Raphael Sander advises clients on patent law, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanics, and mechanical engineering. He represents companies in application, opposition, infringement, and nullity proceedings before the DPMA, the EPO, and the Federal Patent Court.
He studied electrical engineering and information technology (Master of Science) at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich, specializing in energy systems, power electronics, electrical machines, and drives.
Before training as a patent attorney, Mr. Sander worked for the German Armed Forces for eight years in various positions, most recently as deputy head of the S3 staff department. Mr. Sander has been working in intellectual property law since 2017 and was admitted as a patent attorney in 2020.
Main focus
Preparation of patent applications, handling of patent grant procedures in Germany and Europe, support for foreign patent grant procedures, preparation and execution of oppositions against German and European patents, preparation of expert opinions on the legal validity and infringement of patents, advice on the development of intellectual property strategies, advising clients in patent infringement proceedings and conducting patent nullity proceedings, handling trademarks and trademark applications, including advice in trademark disputes.
Technical focus
Electrical engineering and information technology, in particular power electronics, electrical machines and drives, control engineering, energy technology, photovoltaics and semiconductor technology, and computer-implemented inventions; on the other hand, in the field of automotive engineering, in particular in the automotive sector and braking systems.
